Plan Your Patio Now - and be ready for Spring!

By planning your patio now, you will be ready to enjoy your outdoor living space when the warm weather arrives.  Whether you would like to add a patio, or replace an existing concrete slab, we can help you plan out the details.

Take the time to consider a few aspects and you will be well on your way to having the perfect outdoor space to meet your needs.  Consider how your patio will be used, what the best location within your yard will be, and how much space you need.  Also determine the best shape and colors to compliment the color and style of your home.  Will you be adding landscape plants?  Are there extras you would love to include such as a fireplace, fire pit, water feature, trellis or gate?

Landscaping Your Home = Energy Savings For You

In today's economy, who isn't looking for a way to save money?

Landscaping enhances your home, not only by improving its appearance and creating useful outdoor spaces, but also by helping to maintain comfortable indoor living spaces.

In the summer, shading is the simplest, most effective way to cool your home and reduce energy consumption. Trees, shrubs and vines can
be used to shade your home and reduce your energy bills.

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that just three trees, properly placed around the house, can save an average household between $100 and $250 in energy costs annually. To be most effective, trees should be strategically located on the south and west sides of your home. Deciduous trees are best, because they shade in summer and allow light and radiant heat to pass through in the winter.

Shrubs protect the lower portions of walls from heat gain by blocking sunlight. They also act as a windbreak in winter to help protect the house from cold air. Choose shrubs which are low maintenance and grow to a fixed height; and just like the trees, be sure to select varieties that are native to your environment.

Vines provide shading and cooling, and are quick to grow. They can be grown on trellises, or in pots.

How can we help? Our expert advice will assist you with careful selection, placement, planting, and care of trees, shrubs, and vines to help you reduce your energy costs.
